CIEEM Registered Practice
A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) survey is the first step in determining whether your site has potential for protected species or habitats and will form the basis for further survey recommendations.
We recommend getting your PEA survey done as early as possible in the calendar year as many protected species surveys have restricted survey windows and this will help to minimise the potential for delays to a project’s timeline.
Many species are legally protected in the UK, which means you could face regulatory action if your project affects them, their homes or their habitats.
We can provide surveys for amphibians, bats, badgers, reptiles, great crested newts and otters.
In November 2021, The Environment Act 2021 became law. It requires all planning applications going forward to demonstrate a minimum 10% net gain in biodiversity if planning permission is to be granted. This becomes mandatory in November 2023.
We will measure the baseline biodiversity value of the site, and assess your proposals and compare your baseline and proposed values to gauge whether a 10% BNG is feasible using the DEFRA Biodiversity 3.1 or Small Sites Metric.
